My Mindful Ramblings

Where Ideas Wander and Words Flow

Sunrise: Not my usual scene

I have never been a morning person. Not going too much detail into it as that’s off-topic and that’s not what I think to write here. Back to the topic, I’ve always loved the idea of watching the sunrise—though, in reality, it didn’t happen for a very long time until recently. Back home in India, the sun always rises before I am awake. No, definitely not blaming the sun.

Sun is always on spot back there and literally never once have I seen the rising sun. Beaches are the most popular hanging out spots in my place. For One, it is free, two my place will be hot all year long and the coolest place to go to will be beaches (free of cost).

Beaches are for another post. Now coming to the sun, It will be spectacular to watch the sun rising on the beach. That’s what I have heard of. I always had this (still) wish to watch it. I haven’t had a chance to wake up early in the morning and go to a beach.

Once I went to the beach during a late evening, I felt the beaches are calmer in the moonlight. So my wish took a U-turn and I made myself believe that beaches are more beautiful in moon light rather than in the morning.

Diving again into the topic, the place where I live now has given me a chance to watch the beautiful sun rising in all its glory. Don’t jump to the conclusion that I have become a morning person. The sun wakes up at my pace (Not during the summers.

I live in Stockholm. Coming from a very hot place and experiencing the most terrible winters seems depressing. Not to leave the darkness that spreads by the time we have lunch and until the next morning, All night, and a little day.

When complaining about the darkness and cold, I recently started noticing the sky and its colors (though it’s almost 3 years I have been here). As I mentioned earlier, the sun wakes at my pace. We only get to see the sun a few times in the entire course of winter.

It was around 7.30 in the morning, I had a chance (despite the morning chaos at home) to look at the sky, a little bit of darkness, a handful of brightness, the sun with its laziness, thinking whether to rise or not, a mellow orangey spread far away under the vast blue sky, with the night lights of the city still on, a thin spread of snow in the roads from the previous night, it was indeed a splendid view. Many of you would have experienced it before, but a person who has never enjoyed or experienced all of these is at a loss for words.

I may not have described exactly how I felt at the moment, or my camera wouldn’t have captured how I conceived it, but the view is worth it.

In the rush of starting the day, we certainly miss little things like these, which always occupy a beautiful space in our minds and Google photos until we delete them.

I wrote this a few months before and stopped the article with the last paragraph. I went on a vacation to India and happened to hang out with my friends at a beach resort. After hours of late night chats, we still had a small wish to wake up early to look at the sunrise, But to my surprise I woke up (still not early ) and got to watch the rising sun by the beach. It was splendid with a fresh look and the hotness still settling in ( after april and may, june, july, august and so on are also the hottest months in Chennai).

Yes with the long term wish half fulfilled happily closing this post.
